Shanghai This Weekend
Friday As always, this Friday night has way too many options. Moving from east to west, there’s the Bund Brewery’s Microbrewery Beer: All You Can Drink party starting on the early side at 7pm. Then party and smirk a bit to yourself while you enjoy your open bar at Attica as the party goes on without David Morales who got his visa denied. If you just want a good drink and a fun party, J-G Bar at Thee on the Bund is having its ever-fabulous Speakeasy. Good jazz and delicious drinks, always a good combination. If you want a sneak peak at Bund 1, then head over for the Lady Marmalade Mask Party. Might not be the craziest party in town but who doesn’t want to check out a new place? Moving more inland, Sugar is back with it’s Friday Party: Back to the 80s and you know this is going to be a great party with pretty people. Not a bad way to spend a Friday night.
Heading west a bit more, there’s the hyped Boys Climbing Ropes EP Launch Party at Window Tembo’s soon-to-be-former digs and famed genre-defying dissidents Happiness Avenue are at Yuyintang. Or, you can head south for a bit of class and a fabulous drink list at Volar’s sweet and saucy Cotton Candy Party.
What’s left of the city? Keep your map out and hit The Shelter’s now(in)famous Quality Control Night, Minimal Therapy at MAO or Life After Sundown at Anar.
Saturday If you haven’t decided to curl up with a good bottle of wine and scrabble board tonight, then you have your choice between Attica's Coca-Cola Launch Party feat. Gary Gecko, the DJ Fafa Monteco party at Bar Rouge, Favela Chic! at Volar and Acid Pony at MAO. Live music isn’t lacking either this 周六 with Ship of Fools at Yuyintang, Brain Failure at Dream Factory and Pharaoh rocking Freaky Motherfunker at Tembo. If you’re not a fan of parties with mosh pits—maybe preferring spaces that are too small for that much movement—then you might want to check out Antidote’s Plugged party at, of course, The Shelter, or La Boum at LOgO.
Sunday Although Sunday is usually reserved for brunch and recovery, there are a couple events that your liver won’t hate you for and are worth checking out. If you like jazz, or can just appreciate good musicians, then check out The ETH Big Band that's rolling into the JZ Club with its 20 members of the Jazz School Zurich and the Jazz School Lucerne, right after JZ’s Divas, Crooners and Maestros Recital where some of the most promising students from the JZ School are performing. Finally, if you’re sick of those coyote ugly moments after a rough Saturday night, then we won’t tell if you head over to the Speed Dating Party at Bakerzin. If things don’t pan out on the speed dating scene, sneak out early and end the weekend right at Mural’s brandy tasting and art event.
