Many things afoot this weekend, but I'm not going to tell you about them. Instead, I'll just going to shout about the Dance For Haiti concert on Friday night and The Shelter's show on Saturday.

First, Dance For Haiti. What started off as a little idea about raising money with a bunch of local bands has ballooned into a steaming love-in of donations and giving. As well as sets by Weghur, Lions of Puxi, Studio 188, Monroe Stahr, Duck Fight Goose and Wayne’s Basement, organizers have snaffled RMB27,000 worth of prizes to give to audience members.

Chinatown has chipped in an evening package of drinks and entertainment worth RMB10,000. Hilton is giving away a night in one of its swanky rooms. There are tattoo vouches, crates of vodka from Russian Standard Vodka, restaurant vouchers from 1221, a stay at the Ritz, eight dinners at Element Fresh and vouchers for Big Bamboo, Bali Laguna, Thai Gallery, Club Vietnam and Hamilton House.

The charity partner for the benefit is Habitat for Humanity, an international NGO that has been at work in Haiti for 26 years and will use its local expertise and mobilize resources to as part of the long-term recovery building efforts. Their representative in China will give a short presentation at the benefit show. Check out our recent interview with HFH honcho Eric Arndt here and interviews with some of the other organizers of the gig by our columnist Dan Shapiro here.

Raffle tickets will be for sale at the gig. It seems like all of Shanghai is on board. Ship sales from Zhijiang Dream Factory at 9pm.

Then on Saturday we have Mark Ernestus and Tiki Man playing for Shanghai By Bus at The Shelter. This is one for aficionados, shoe-gazers, train spotter, call us what you want. But it's also going to be a huge night for anyone with a passing interest in dub, reggae, dancehall, minimal techno and the strange zones at which they intersect.

Ernestus is faceless hero to the Detroit and Berlin techno scene. He keeps his head down, doesn't do much press and generally concentrates on keeping it real. Check out my gushing write up here of the gig here.

Nights at opposing ends of the Shanghai spectrum, but both expected to be bangers.
