If there's a silver lining to Shanghai's blistering cold winters, it's the chance to curl up by one of the city's best fireplaces with a warm beverage in hand. We braved the chilly temperates to venture out to a few of our favorite winter weather spots so that we could give you the low down. So go ahead, grab a brew and cozy up here:
Flair at The Ritz-Carlton | Century Avenue
Flair at the Ritz-Carlton is the highest outdoor bar in Shanghai, and, with the Pearl Tower floating just before your eyes, it has the most spectacular view in town. However, when the temperature drops, the last thing you'll want to do is stand outside on the deck. Luckily, the indoor area is well equipped with a spectacular and ultra modern fireplace. With a DJ spinning nightly, spectacular cocktails (expect to pay around RMB90 + 15 percent surcharge), a gourmet snacks menu and super comfy seating; this is the perfect place to hideaway from the harsh Shanghai winter.
The Camel | Yueyang Lu
While most of us think of the Camel as a pub to enjoy sports games over a casual beer, the upcoming winter will give patrons another reason to frequent this local favourite. A fireplace, which often goes unnoticed, lies tucked in towards the back of the bar and will provide customers with an excellent place to sneak off to on those cold, rainy Shanghai days that we’ve all come to dread. Surrounded by comfortable couches and a plethora of pillows, the warm fireplace give us one more motive to visit the Camel, but maybe this time for a coffee (make it Irish RMB45). Happy hour every day 4-8pm.
O'Malleys | Taojiang Lu
With it's Alice in Wonderland oversized seating, O'Malleys will be the perfect place to hunker down when the weather drops to those freezing temperatures. Bypass the courtyard and rooftop (which are amazing in summer) and plop yourself down on the lower level. The bar has a giant fireplace (pictured above) surrounded by ample seating. Bask in the fire's warmth with friends and a bottle of wine. Head there on a Sunday night and enjoy one of their legendary roast dinners (RMB95).
Casa 13 | Jianguo Zhong Lu
This place is a great hideaway spot to seek refuge from the cold. Upon entering the restaurant bar grab one of two tables directly in front of the fire place. Moving to a larger table on their outdoor patio will not be an option once once you feel the warmth and comfort of the flames. A small, intimate location to sip wine and relax with friends.
Park Tavern | Hengshan Lu
Located in a converted townhouse, this multistory bar / restaurant is very much an English pub. A warm and inviting wood covered interior, featuring a fireplace on the second floor, definitely makes this a spot to shelter from the cold. Featuring a range of beers, as well as a fairly good selection of whiskey and other spirits will insure that your warmed up inside, while the fireplace warms you on the out. Drinks are moderately priced with beer priced at RMB35 and up, and cocktails RMB50 and up. Fairly large, and featuring the full range of bar games and TVs, make this a good spot for drinks with your buddies when its cold out.
Cotton's | Anting Lu
This Shanghai staple features not one, but two fireplaces; each surrounded by couches and low tables, giving those occupants prime seating. Known mainly for its brunch, Cotton's only lights up their fireplaces when its especially cold outside. The downside to Cottons is the majority of the seating is in their converted outdoor area, so unless you venture inside, you may never see the fireplaces to begin with. Even then, those who get the treasured seats in front of them hold sway. A good place for after work drinks, the bar is friendly and fun. Drinks average around RMB60
Boxing Cat Brewery | Fuxing Lu
Well known for their wide selection of draught beers and excellent fare, we sometimes forget one of trademarks of the original Boxing Cat Brewery down on Fuxing Lu – its fireplace. Yes, we could go down on a lazy Sunday and try our luck at the 12 pints in 2 hours challenge (usually unsuccessfully), and end up paying for each and every one of them. Scratch that and head over to relax in front of a roaring fire with a hot steaming cup of whichever spirit tickles your fancy. Happy hour every day 3-8pm (pints RMB35, pitchers RMB75, hot spirits RMB35).
Dr. Wine | Fumin Lu
We've dubbed this bar the "Best Faux Fireplace". Exposed grey brick and visible wine cellars create a perimeter for this jazzy night destination. The bar area downstairs features a fireplace hearth, recycled wine bottle decor and tile work. Yes, the fireplace is out of commission, but it adds the same at-home comfort to the bar area that you would get from any "real" fireplace. Upstairs, black tables for two, simple wood accent furniture, leather couches and a shared communal table fill the space. Overhanging iron fixtures illuminate Dr. Wine’s carefully curated list of new world and European wines. Expect to pay RMB42 - RMB78 for a glass of red or white of your choosing or ask the sommelier for a recommendation.

Good call, Lee. The Puli in Jing an does have a really nice dark wood-paneled library complete with fireplace. It's across the lobby from the bar. Great place to curl up with a book.
Now I just need to know which of these bars serves mulled wine and I'll be set! Thanks
@sweetas - I was at The Social at the URBN hotel a few weeks ago and they had great mulled wine. The space is super cozy too, so it'd be a perfect place to grab a drink as the weather cools down.
