Although we all love a good beer, most aren’t made to take Shanghai’s summer heat. When you do find a cool, light, brew perfect for summer sipping, double fisting suddenly becomes an attractive option. At least, that’s how we felt after finding Liefmans Kriek Lambic, a Belgian
cherry beer that satisfied even our demanding beer palate.
This 375ml of goodness is a rare catch in Shanghai. We were thrilled Jackie at Beernest still had
some in stock when we stopped by. Jackie explained that this light
beer “is made from 13kg of cherries (Danish cherries and Belgian kriek-cherry) and matures for about a year.”
Being a Kriek Lambic, the beer toes the fine line of bitter-sweet that mass produced fruit beers (drunkenly) lurch over. Beernest, however fabulous, doesn’t have any outdoor summer seating which is a bit of a disappointment. However, this venue is as much of a store as a bar, so if you want to enjoy this sweetly acidic brew in the warm sun, buy a pack from Jackie and let the terrace hunt begin.
