The "No Fun" Olympics Strike Again: The Shelter Closed for a Month
It's official, as of last night, The Shelter was closed--due to Olympics--for a month. Look for them to be back in action Sept. 6.
Apparently, there's a new government regulations stating that, "due to heightened security during the Olympics, all underground venues [meaning venues underneath ground level], including restaurants, bars, hotels [seriously?] must be closed from Aug. 7 to Sept. 6."
Amazingly enough though, Z-Trip got his visa so that show will go on, just at Zhijiang Dream Factory. The one bright side to all of this is that an unexpected month off give the guys time to renovate a bit.

And there are also a number of other "underground" venues in Shanghai still open as well, but that is the official reason (on paper) given to the venue.
I was at Bund 5 last night and it seems like their basement level restaurant, Number 5, is still open for business. Amazing that there would be unequal and selective implementation of a law in China

White Rabbit in Beijing is still open. Also an underground techno club. Must be something else going on there.
