Montreal-based entertainment company Cirque du Soleil awed Shanghai with breathtaking acrobatics, spectacular costumes and amazing lighting four years ago with more than 70 performances of Quidam. Now the Canadian kings of the circus return with Saltimbanco, an even more thrilling and kaleidoscopic performance. Originating from the Italian saltare in banco, “saltimbanco” literally means to jump on a bench. Since its premiere in 1992, the show has already brought entertainment to more than 12 million people in 300 cities on five continents. Described by Cirque du Soleil as a celebration of life inspired by the urban fabric of the metropolis and its colorful inhabitants, the show features an international cast of more than 50 performers and musicians mixing traditional circus with modern acts. With colorful costumes, enchanting Baroque music and amusing performances, Saltimbanco draws you into an imaginary city in a dreamlike world; you will leave wanting to return long after the show is over.

It was a great show and experience, but we felt that even though they update this show regularly, the newer shows are so much more sophisticated and cohesive, and as a consequence we thought it showed it's roots in street circus a little too much. If that makes sense
