One of the world's only all-male drag ballet troupes is in Beijing--Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. I caught them in Beijing and they were fabulous and hilarious and then fabulous again.

Timeout did a good write-up of the show, but no amount of words can describe the hilarity of strapping men acting as prima ballerinas and loving every minute of it.

The show is divided into three parts--all short vignettes with only the vaguest of plots. In fact most of the vignettes start with ensemble work and then evolve into a series of solos, before bringing the ensemble back together. The pieces showcase technical mastery and physical prowess, but above all, they make you laugh out loud.

Catch this show--it is outstanding. And the Beijing audience responded with a standing ovation at the opening. I expect the Shanghai shows to be even more rollicking. They play two dates in Shanghai, Oct. 3 and Oct. 4..
