Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland Hitting Local Cinemas Week

If you’re experiencing post-Avatar withdrawal, mark March 26 on your calendar because that’s when Tim Burton’s highly anticipated 3-D film Alice in Wonderland hits local theaters.

Burton’s version is not your typical fairy tale; it’s dark, scary and psychedelic. A combination of live action and animation, it’s set 10 years after Lewis Carroll’s original. Alice (Mia Wasikowska) is now a 19-year-old misfit in staid and stuffy Victorian England. Once again, she follows the White Rabbit (voiced by Michael Sheen) down the rabbit hole to Wonderland, a mysterious underground world of weirdness. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are perfect choices for their outrageous roles and look just right as The Mad Hatter and the Red Queen. This big-budget Hollywood film also features a strong line-up of British actors, including Matt Lucas, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman.

Burton warps an already twisty tale the way only he can and throws in some amazing CGI effects to boot. Whether you’re as mad as a Hatter or as fussy as the Red Queen, you’re likely to leave this movie with a smile as wide as the Cheshire Cat’s. This version is rated PG, but be careful–this trippy movie may upset the kids. Tracy You
