This tiny shoebox of a store in Xintiandi resembles a high-class designer showroom in every sense except for the price tags. That’s because all its designers are recent graduates from the Raffles Design Institute who are just starting to make a name for themselves. Raffles Privato stocks collections from a few designers at a time, making for a rotating supply of custom-made clothing. You might find military inspired knitwear one month and girly lace the next. Among our favorite fall items are a pair of high waisted black pants (RMB1,308) and a two-toned silk and velvet shrug (RMB899) by designer Niki. We’re also partial to Jack’s knitwear creations in muted shades of browns and grays and can’t help but lust after a few of his handmade accessories. Our most exciting find? Chunky art deco necklaces that feature a large leopard print stone and oversized beads held together by industrial wire (RMB599) from designer Jack. Shopping here feels like a win-win since you can score designer duds at affordable prices while also supporting up-and-coming talent.
