Zaobao: Yao Ming sends Liu Xiang his support and encouragement

Although the front page story today is still about Liu Xiang and his momentous disappointment, the big picture shows Cuban sprinter Dayton Robles. This doesn’t mean Liu has faded into the background. Fellow athletes are offering advice and encouragement to Liu Xiang. Among them is another icon of Chinese sport, Yao Ming, who also had a severe injure while playing in the NBA and healed just in time for the Olympics. He text messaged Liu’s coach yesterday wanting him to pass on his advice and encouragement to Liu Xiang.

After leaving competition for 2 years, Li Xiaoshuang, won gold in the parallel bars. He also overtook Li Ning, becoming the Chinese gymnast holding the most gold medals. He asked Liu not to quit and come back stronger than ever.

  • Apparently Liu is doing okay. He called his teammate Shi Dongpeng to congratulate him on making the next round.

  • Real estate properties whose internal structure has been severely altered will no longer be banned from trading. Instead the owner of the property will receive an additional page on the real estate deed warning possible buyers about the alteration. This small amendment got a big mention today in the Morning Post. The law was changed based on the suggestion of the public.

  • The Chinese Insurance Regulatory Commission held a press conference to clarify rumors that it has advised Chinese insurance companies to reduce their stake in the A share stock market. In a bearish market, good news usually becomes bad. In a Chinese bearish market, bad news will generate by itself.

  • Temperature staying stable between 27 to 35 degrees Celsius. No signal of the upcoming heat wave.
