Zaobao: Meet the fastest man alive!
Usain Bolt won the title of fastest man alive effortlessly. Looking back before hitting the finish line in the 100 meters, he still broke the world record and left everyone with a question: what could have been if he had run hard the whole race?
Bolt proved himself again yesterday by winning again the 200 meters race. Not only did he break the 12 year-old world record set by Michael Johnson, also he became the first man to break the world record in both 100 and 200 meters in the same Olympics. I don’t think there is any doubt that Usain Bolt in the fastest man alive. Maybe ever.
Front page Story
Aside from the big picture of Usain Bolt, the biggest headline today actually is something most every Chinese cares deeply about. After weeks of dark cloud over the A share market, the stocks made an extraordinary comeback yesterday climbing 7.63 percent to top 2,500. The next question would be if this is the start of a trend of just a rebound in the overall bearish market. People are still on high alert.
Other headlines today
Liu Xiang’s teammate didn’t run fast enough to qualify for the 110 meters hurdle finals. This makes everyone miss Liu Xiang even more. There is only one Liu Xiang in China, and he is expected to come back on the tracks in the second half of this year.
The Chinese men’s basketball team failed to advance to the semi-finals on home soil as they lost to Lithuania 75 to 95. However, all hope is not lost as China will play Spain for a chance to surpass its best record of finishing 8th in the Olympics. I have a feeling the Chinese might achieve the impossible.
Total 45 gold metals for China as two were added yesterday in women’s windsurfing and karate. Reach 40 was crazy, now there is a chance for the Chinese to reach 50.
In preparation for the 2010 Shanghai Expo, the municipal government has granted permission for the opening of foreign exchange stops in Shanghai. There is still a cap of USD5,000 per day for Chinese resident and USD500 per day for expats. I guess a cap is better no options at all.
Another announcement on the front page today says that our dear comrade Hua Guofeng died at age 87. Hua was loyal communist fighter, a selfless revolutionary and served in important central posts. I guess China will always be China.
I am a little sick right now, so the weather outside seems perfect for me. I am actually planning to take a walk outside during lunch to bask in the sun. Therefore, I have no comment on today’s weather as I have no idea on how a normal personal would feel today. I just hoping you will see my blog tomorrow again!
