Starting October 11th, the price for a taxi ride in Shanghai will raise around 10%. The basic fee will go from 11 to 12, and the per kilometer price increases from 2.1 to 2.4.
Since changing all the taxi meters will take time, you will be seeing taxis with a red or blue price tag on this rear left window. Red tag equals the old price and blue tag is the new price. Guess who’s getting all the business. This will last about a month to November 11th, after that, it’s all 12RMB to start.
As a man who doesn’t have a heavy reliance on taxis, I really don’t have any comment on this. I would assume it’s not that much of a big deal, unless you have regular trips to the airport.

Another important news on driving: all the state and national highways around the Shanghai will have a name change complete by the end of this year. All the national highways will have a G as the first letter and state highways get a S. For more information, you can visit city government's site and Shanghai's Highway website, or call 59115999 or 59112s122. Depending on your budget, you may also consider either a new map or a new driver.
