The National Weather Bureau has just switch to a tight 24-hour watch to make sure nothing goes wrong on the national day celebration. Everybody who’s somebody and involved with weather forecast in Beijing and Tianjing area will be watching the weather 24/7 until October 3rd. I believe everything in man’s power has been done. Let’ hope the show will go on.

Other Headlines Today

• Ahead of the national holiday and 2010 Expo, the transit department has finally decided to add trains to the metro line No. 3 and 4. This is very good news for commuters coming from Pudong and Hong Kou. Waiting time is cut and the closing time will increase by 30 minutes for the number 3 line and 40 minutes for the number 4 line.

• Shanghai’s professional soccer team wants to changes the name of its home court stadium from Hong Kou Football Stadium to St. Lu Xun’s Park Stadium, trying to copy the acts of an England Premier League team. The soccer team opened a public vote on KaiXin Wang, a Chinese equivalent of facebook. 66% of voters oppose the move saying the move is superficial and the team should concentrate on playing better. Cheers to speaking your mind when you know something’s stupid.

• This year another very important Chinese holiday coincides with the national holiday and that’s the Zhong Qiu holiday, where families gather to enjoy moon cakes under the full moon. It’s a holiday of family unity. On page A13 of the morning post, we have a typical Chinese dinner manual for this holiday posted. It has the following dishes: Osmanthus flavored lotus roots stuffed with glutinous rice, taro with melted sugar, duck stew, small rice balls in sweet fermented rice soup, Osmanthus wine.
