Rejoice! There is another Western supermarket in town stocked with all our favorites from all our homes－from Betty Crocker to Cadbury to cheese, cheese, and more cheese. Its accessible location (right on the Shanxi Lu metro stop) and exceedingly friendly service, will give the branches in Times Square and the Portman stiff competition. Ah, the service! At this City Supermarket even the security guards pitch in to find you a cart when you unexpectedly overstuff your basket (but you just had to get that big box of Bisquick pancake mix, and a jug of syrup to go with it). And at the three lane checkout the cashiers were practically gentle, saying "Thank you so much, hope to see you again," in perfect English. It brought tears to my eyes.

The downside, of course, is the expense. Where do they get off charging Y8 for a Mr. Goodbar? It's appalling, but it's hard to care too much with the aroma of freshly baked (unsweetened) bread in your nostrils. Also, I noticed some canned cranberry sauce in aisle 5－just in time for Thanksgiving!
