Are you the victim of a dating disaster? Then read on. This Valentine's Day, City Weekend reels in four of Shanghai's most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes.

Boy meets girl. Boy woos girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Unfortunately Shanghai is not always the city for happily ever after. Let us indulge you with some of the possible endings. Boy or girl goes back to his/her respective homeland, relationship ends. Boy or girl realizes inner celebrity and wants Entourage-esque lifestyle for a few years, relationship ends. Boy or girl turns into a lunatic and relationship ends. In honor of Valentine's Day, City Weekend brings back hope in the happily ever-afters. While we can't promise a Hollywood ending, we do have access to some of Shanghai's single, successful and commitment-friendly men and women.

The Sexy Intellectual: Amanda Cotterman

Occupation: Fulbright Scholar

In Shanghai: 5 months

Single: She has not had a lot of time for dating

Dating in her hometown vs. dating in Shanghai:

I grew up in the southern part of the United States, so I've been spoiled by southern boys and their good manners. Going to school in Boston, MA was perfect. There are so many colleges there, it's a great place to meet people. It's a little harder in Shanghai , but I've made it work.

Obstacles faced as an expat woman looking for love: The diversity of the expat community can create language barriers. I've found that expat men here tend to immerse themselves more in the local scene for dating, which makes it harder for an expat woman to find a date.

Dating escapades in China: I once had a first date to a Gucci fashion show. It was quite an experience but a little intimidating when my date was more into fashion than I was. However, it ended well, and we are still friends. What makes her a catch: Oh god, I hate talking about myself. Okay, I am an easygoing chick who loves to have fun and laugh. I'm quite active, having grown up playing sports, but also just like chilling with friends and relaxing. I'm a hard worker but spend my weekends going out and enjoying myself.

The International Belle: Tara

Occupation: Associate at an international public relations firm

In Shanghai: 1.5 years Single: 5 months

Her longest relationship: 3.5 years

Where she's met single guys in Shanghai: On the tennis court (I coach in my spare time), on transnational flights, at the Chamber of Commerce and networking events, and at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

What makes her a catch: Why wouldn't I be a catch?! I'm smart, fun to be around, and my friends tell me I throw great holiday parties. The real question is: What makes you a good catch!?

Ideal date: Originality is a plus, as is a sense of humor. Once I had boyfriend who gave me a buoy instead of flowers. I asked, "What am I going to do with a buoy?" He said, "What are you going to do with flowers?" I said I'd put them in water. He replied, "Well you can put this in water, too!" That showed originality!

Craziest thing she's ever done for love: I almost joined Shanghai's Gaelic football team. But then he asked me out anyway.

The Big Friendly Giant: Daniel Siekman

Occupation: teacher for the Sydney Institute of Language and Commerce

In Shanghai: 5 months Single: 8 months

His longest relationship: 2 years

Dating escapades in China: As a direct result of meeting a woman at a bar in Shanghai, I ended up spending an unbearably hot night in September sleeping on the floor outside my locked apartment. I'm just glad I live on the top floor of my building; I was able to take off my pants, roll them up, and use them as a pillow without fear of someone finding me sleeping in the hall in my boxers.

What makes him a catch: Everything except my slightly meager teacher's salary.

Ideal date and with whom: Dinner at M on the Bund followed by go-karting would provide the perfect combination of sophistication and fun. I can like a woman who appreciates good food and wine; I could love a woman who appreciates good food, good wine, and go-karting.

Craziest thing he's done for love: I jumped off a cliff into the ocean to impress a woman. I dislocated my left shoulder trying to climb out of the water, and it's never been the same since. Love hurts.

The Soulful Professor: Luscious N. Delicious

Occupation: teacher at the Shanghai

Korean School / Master’s Candidate In Shanghai: 1 year; Single: 1.5 years

His longest relationship: 2.5 years; On his enticing, and yes, legal, name: I was 18 and it seemed like a smart idea at the time. (Luscious N. Delicious is not his given / family name). I was changing a lot and trying to make my own way. I thought it was silly to have a name picked out of a baby book, so it was my way of forming a unique identity.

What makes him a catch: I'm not your classic "catch," but I have a good heart and I think that's catch-worthy. I also think it's important to have a passion. It can be anything. For me I like to fully engage myself in what I'm doing. That is a very positive thing. I think it's hard to be involved emotionally if you don’t have those passions. You need to be happy enough on your own so you can take someone for who they are as opposed to what they can do for you.

Ideal date: Someone well read. I like bookworms ... bookworms are sexy. A girl who marches to her own beat; she's got to be independent-minded and someone who could have a dynamic conversation. I definitely want an equal.
