GOURMET WEEK EDITORIAL REVIEW

THE NEO CAFE, a new and recent addition to the growing restaurant area on Weihai Lu sports a retro modern decor. Perhaps a touch of “A Clockwork Orange” and the love for old films subconsciously influenced the Hangzhou born owner to come up with this creative concept. Primary colors are ablaze, but tasteful in design, providing a comfortable setting that is perfect for couples on a date or friends enjoying good times together. The inventive chef, previously of AFP and the Portman, has every opportunity to express his culinary talents in a most artistic way featuring an array of meats and seafood as well as eclectic Italian dishes.

The set menu for Gourmet Week presents a delectable filet mignon smothered in succulent mushrooms plus a glass of house wine all for only 99RMB.This could be one of the best scrumptious deals in town. However, the best option, which we strongly suggest, is the additional chef’s choice of saffron seafood soup, a gourmet delight of herbs, seafood, and a touch of saffron in a tomato base with garlic crouton, and an imaginative Cesaer Salad presented in an edible parmesean cheese bowl with the filet mignon for only 99RMB. This allows you to choose your own wine accompaniment An excellent choice is a full bodied, slightly fruity, red Temprannillo from Spain (60RMB per glass or 280RMB for the bottle). Top your meal off with a cup of freshly brewed imported coffee (22RMB), crème brulée 26RMB) or chocolate warm cake (32RMB), and you will have had the perfect meal for the perfect price at the perfect place.

The overall dining and eating experience at the Neo Café is not to be missed. You will want to return to this new addition to the Shanghai eating scene time and time again.
