The Shelter
Swallow your claustrophobia and descend through a dark winding tunnel into the newest (and possibly only) DJ-centered bar in Shanghai. Once known as Blue Ice, The Shelter is a haven for clubbers who choose dancing over posing. The music on the dance floor doesn't get drowned out by the rattling of dice since the only tables and chairs are in large chill-out rooms in the back tunnel with a softer sound and a different lighting vibe. The main room is all dance floor and, save for a couple of tastefully used lasers, is virtually devoid of retina-searing flashbulb effects. The absence of a NASA-designed light system means savings get passed on to us–a bottle of local beer only set us back ¥15 and a decent mixed drink ran us less than ¥50. Aside from being a little smoky (even for Shanghai), this place provides great vibes and lots of fun.
