An Inviting Aroma
Cafés | La Aroma de Vida

To reveal this little gem feels like an act of generosity. This small high-ceilinged room soothes the over-stimulated urban soul with live herb plants, green walls and vintage Art Deco furniture from owner Rachel Huo's collection. It's like a cozy stylish home. The menu features homestyle dishes which are satisfying but ordinary, such as beef in black pepper sauce or sauteed duck in spicy sauce (most plates are ¥20-¥40). There are also a few sandwiches and desserts, but the true delights are the creative and inexpensive drinks. The fresh lemonade (squeezed on-the-spot using a large, elegant chrome citrus press) has a palmful of smashed mint leaves. The chocolate coffee smoothie (¥33) is deeply earthy and not overly sweet. The iced mint latte (¥25) is, in a word, addictive.
