Price but No Spice
Malaysian | Sakura
With a lemon-colored faux-ethnic décor, this restaurant's service is attentive and the menu voluminously dedicated to Tourism Malaysia articles. There's a nice selection of Malay classics with a good helping of seafood. Sautéed squid with belachan was spicy and fragrant with shrimp paste, but a bit generous on the onions at the expense of the squid (¥58). We emptied both saucers of hot sauce onto our bland char kuay teow noodles (¥38) to help them out and, although they did have good wok hay, the shrimp weren't fresh. Same for the shrimp in the curry laksa (¥38) where spicy yet flavorless broth held noodles, a boiled chicken wing, three pieces of green beans and a sprig of mint. By now we weren't expecting much from the teh tarik (iced milk tea, ¥25), a barely sweet, diluted concoction. We wouldn't have been so upset if it wasn't ¥150 for two for a lunch of mostly noodles.
