  1. Email Mall at Jing'an Temple Across the street from Jiu Guang Sogo Department Store, this two-storey mini shopping Mecca offers you finds from knock-off Anna Sui accessories to cute imported clothing from Hong Kong and Korea. Local designers also like to show off their creations here, so claw through the racks for some one-off designs. Take a seat at one of the many manicure booths to have your digits slicked with a fresh coat of polish for RMB25.

  2. Huaihai Lu Underground Shopping Center One of the more organized underground malls in town. Glass booths showcasing handmade jewelry beckon, while shoe store upon shoe store leads you starry eyed as you play Cinderella to find that perfect slipper. Clothing selections here are better than at other malls, so plan on an afternoon of snooping for that perfect find.

  3. Yatai Shenghui Underground Shopping Centre This subterranean mall below the Science & Technology Museum in Pudong took in many of the former Xiangyang Market vendors forced to relocate after the market was demolished last summer. From now on, you don’t have to worry about heat and rain as you shop for your imitation Louis Vuitton or Prada bag.

  4. People's Square Underground Shopping Center This massive shopping center sprawling underneath the People's Square Metro Station is made up of hundreds of boutiques that vie for your attention as soon as you get off the train. If you have time and a good eye, you might come across a hidden gem. Try The Disney Cuties (A62) and Bangkok Silver Accessories (A69) a store with handmade silver jewelry.

  5. Zhongshan Park Underground Shopping Center After you get off the subway, head to Exit 3. Walk through the long corridor and you'll find two parallel rows of boutiques on both sides, facing a Watsons store. B02, the Twenty-five Life store, sells cute ornaments. We like the Korean-style accessories sold at shops C12, B23 and B48. At C03, C26 and B41, you’ll find manicures at a low price.
