FASHIONISTA: Eco-Friendly Style
Chris knows what he likes. And when it comes to fashion, he's known that clean lines and pieces devoid of logos are the way to go since he was 5 years old. Here in Shanghai, Chris' casual cool outfit comes courtesy of his favorite boutiques. "I can't stand shopping for very long," he says, "but I love having new clothes. Luckily I live right next to the best clothes shopping areas in the city on Changle Lu, Maoming Lu and Julu Lu, so I can just step outside my house and pick up something new in five seconds." Let's break it down: The vibrant pink t-shirt was found in a shop fittingly called Candy on Julu Lu while the hip, tiger-stripe faded jeans were picked up at Orange along Ruijin Lu. Accents and accessories are just as important to pull the outfit together, so Chris turned to Solid for his studded leather belt, and to the Qipu Lu Market for the crisp white leather shoes. But the pièce de résistance of this outfit is the turquoise blue Reuse.bag. Fashionable, but more so practical, this item is close to Chris' heart. "I was involved in bringing the bag into existence," Chris says proudly. "My company, Greennovate, and JOOI Designs worked together to create the bag to help fund the GECKO (Greennovate Environmental Challenge for Kids Outreach) program which I've been developing in Shanghai and teaching in rural China." Since the plastic bag ban came into play in Shanghai, reusable bags have become a necessity in every fashionista's wardrobe. "If we can integrate the concept of 'reuse' into our lives, starting with something as simple as carrying around a reusable bag, then we're already putting into practice one of the key concepts toward creating a less wasteful, more sustainable society."
