Our fashion inspiration this week is the stylish Mulan Lam. We can't get enough of her simple silhouettes and her '50s glamour inspired pieces.

“Fashion is like a living entity that changes as it interacts with the environment and people–it’s in a constant state of creative flow,” says Mulan. In my line of work, I have the pleasure of being surrounded by the fashionable and glamorous. Rarely, though, do I come across those who have the ability to articulate so eloquently the effect fashion has on oneself as Mulan.

“I’m inspired by what I see, smell, taste, touch and feel; everything I experience has an impact on my style. It can come from the light shining through gathered leaves, from a unique angular piece of architecture, an interesting conversation with a friend, a gallery exhibit or through learning what others are wearing.” For Mulan, who works at Design Republic, one of China’s top furniture and lifestyle firms, an outfit is more than self-expression: it's self and company branding. At work, she tends to stick to classic business wear in simple colors with a twist of '50s glamour. You’ll see her in pieces that focus on silhouette, like culottes, or those with details like loosely draped sleeves. She satiates most of her style cravings at the Huangpi Nan Lu Metro station's underground malls or has her designs tailor-made at the fabric market
