Jerry Miao | Marriott Executive Apartments
All in the Family We're dumb, what are executive apartments anyway? It's pretty new for Marriott. This brand doesn't exist in North America, only in gateway cities like Tokyo, London, Shanghai and Beijing. We cater to senior executives and high-end business people who have assignment overseas. The key is long-term stay, it's not just for a weekend, right? That's right. Thirty days plus, up to a year or two. Two years? Two, sometimes three here! Who stays here? We have IBM, GM, Ford, all the major Fortune 500 companies. All the major banks are here. We have a big group from Citigroup. Financial is huge here; we're right in the middle of Shanghai's financial hub. So if I need investment advice I should hang out in the lobby here? Ha ha! Not really. If you see the lobby it's very small, not designed for the public. We are a residential facility and want to give people the comfort of home, a sense of security. But we also offer the amenities of full-service hotels: room service, laundry and breakfast in the lounge here. This is home away from home? Absolutely, we provide a home away from home for our customers. Ninety percent are from foreign countries. What's the nationality breakdown? Thirty percent are from North America. That makes sense since the brand is American. Definitely. When these big companies send their senior executives, they are looking for a brand, a name they can trust. Marriott is the one they are familiar with and comfortable with. Fifty percent of our business is Marriott Reward customers. Meaning? You keep staying at Marriott properties, you accumulate the points and you end up with a free stay in Hawaii. We can get a free stay in Hawaii? Sure, depends how long you stay here! Stay 75 nights per year, then you get some free nights. Looks like we've got a long way to go.
