A weekend at the Banyan Tree offers peace of mind

Travelers looking to catch the rays and blue skies of Sanya while avoiding crowded beaches and throngs of tourists can find the solitude they seek at Banyan Tree Sanya. Every guest at Banyan Tree enjoys the peace and tranquility that comes with having his or her own private villa, complete with a private swimming pool and spacious bed and bath, as well as an outdoor lotus pond with a second bath inside.

Framed by classical Chinese ashen slate brick walls and a tropical lake, each villa’s private courtyard offers total seclusion from all but the sun over head and the breeze coming in off the water. Whether swimming laps or working on one’s tan, the setup is ideal for the couple or family seeking privacy, peace and quiet. The basic pool villa includes a large bedroom, a separated living pavilion and spacious bathroom.

Though the luxury of seclusion may be Banyan Tree’s chief selling point, its public space is similarly grand. There is a large circular track-shaped pool, with flowing water, and the verdant grounds and open skies are breathtaking by day or night. The private beach, however, will soon become Banyan Tree’s crown jewel. Though still under development, the beach will soon include a swimming area and a 500 meter-long pier and beach bar.

Currently, there are two restaurants at Banyan Tree. The main restaurant, Saffron, is a brilliant Thai restaurant with a large open air seating area. The second, Ming Yue, serves both Chinese and Western fare. Both restaurants, as well as the hotel’s bar, offer room service to each villa.

As the Banyan Tree brand has spread throughout Asia, its resorts have developed reputations as having some of the region’s most luxurious spas. During our stay in Sanya, we tried out the Balinese-style Massage (¥750). The masseuse, trained at Banyan Tree Spa Academy in Phuket, was a true master of the form, using circular deep compression movements to release tension. In addition to its range of Thai-style massage treatments, the spa includes hydrothermal services, affusion shower rooms, outdoor baths and steam showers.

Though outside the resort there are beautiful beaches, golf courses, hiking and water sports, solid and tranquility are Banyan Tree’s principal advantages. With the services and resources of the resort at one’s fingertips, few visitors will ever want to leave the grounds.
