Chow Down City Deli’s Monstrous Turkey Avocado Sandwich

Sandwiches have a cult following all over the world. There’s a British Sandwich Association, an Australasian Sandwich Association and countless other similar well-attended groups all over the world. We’re not quite fanatical enough to join a club, but a good sandwich is still a real taste of home: it’s a reminder of those painstakingly detailed 30-minute construction sessions that we used to throw ourselves into lovingly, layering ingredient on top of ingredient to eventually arrive at a towering beacon of personalized deliciousness. That’s why we love City Deli, the city’s pre-eminent maker of monster sandwiches. Their pulled pork (RMB52) and steak and cheese (RMB62) options are some of the best in town, but we still favor the turkey avocado (RMB73). A huge offering stuffed with slices of turkey, bacon and tomato and overflowing with creamy guacamole (though we still like to ask for extra), it comes enveloped in your choice of baguette or panini. Our one complaint would be the slice of processed cheese that’s hidden at the bottom, though if you’re a true sandwich fan, we’re sure that you’ve got a brick of cheddar lying around to use in situations just like this.
