Coffee Bus: Shanghai's Best Takeaway Coffee

It’s difficult to genuinely recommend a coffee shop in Shanghai. Ultimately, they all do the same thing. Are you really going to tell someone to brave Shanghai traffic or roll across the bridge just for a cup of coffee? Yes, this time we are. Coffee Bus undoubtedly produces some of the best takeaway coffee in Shanghai. That’s a big statement, but this place backs it up.

The hole-in-the-wall hangout is the brainchild of three locals, Qian Dong, Hu Zhibing and Wu Zhongcheng, who all share a love of the bean. And unlike the coffee chains who’ve institutionalized the art of coffee-making, these guys are dedicated to producing exceptional coffee every time.

Espresso junkies should try a shot of the aromatic and smooth espresso (RMB10), a special blend that leaves a pleasant, bittersweet finish on the palate. Those of the latté set will relish in the perfectly brewed coffee and steamed milk (RMB14). For something sweeter, order the rose cappuccino (RMB16). This creamy and artfully foam-topped drink is paired with velvety rose syrup and dried rose petals; on a winter day it will make your insides glow. If you’re a lover of coffee, make the trip. If you’re a local or work in the area, we’re jealous: you’ve just scored yourself a little bit of caffeine heaven, and they’ll even deliver for free anywhere between Zhongshan Park and Jingan Temple.
