We’ve long had a hankering for some good bites on Yongfu Lu. Yes, there’s that noodle shop around the corner, and that hot dog truck that sometimes pulls up outside, but those are only stopgap options—you’d expect a lot more on a street that rages all weekend every weekend. Well, Willy’s just fixed all that. Everything the man has touched in this town has quickly turned into (sexy) gold, and we predict nothing less for Bikini, his new “outer space and porn”-themed spot.

It serves up a delectable range of small tapas dubbed “snackies”, a selection of new hot dogs (named, ostensibly, after certain well-hung actors like Mr. Rocco, Mr. North and Mr. Jeremy), but our favorite items here are the sandwiches. Taken off el Cóctel’s menu and rebranded with some familiar names along the same theme, they all come in bread swathed decadently in gobs of butter and all crunch with the satisfaction you get only from a well-made sandwich.

We currently have a special spot for two of the ham and cheese varieties: Miss Fox (RMB48), filled with mustard, ham and Emmental cheese, and Miss Lovelace (RMB98), a slightly drier option with Iberian-cured pork loin, gooey Camembert and diced mushrooms. But whatever you choose, you can’t miss with any of the Misses on this menu.

For a place named Bikini, are there any yellow polka dots? Then with the aforementioned price and size, it would only be fitting :-) to call it "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" sandwich? ;-)

Really tasty, but the price is unreasonable. I do understand that they have to pay the rent but a 100 kuai for a sandwich? And it is just a tiny pice of gourmet, not something you would expect after a late night out, that would be enough for your dinner, breakfast and lunch. So... love the interior, like the service, love the selection of Monocles on the wall, but do something about the price, or the size of the portions.
