What happens when you cross foodies with Facebook? Answer: Mamazuofan. Julien Chiavassa has just launched the new social networking platform for amateur chefs and food lovers in Shanghai. We caught up with the culinary king to find out more.

How does Mamazuofan work? There are two types of people on the website. First, there are cooks. They are either amateurs who just love cooking or chefs in a restaurant–perhaps a Japanese chef from a French restaurant who wants to do his own sushi. On the other side, you have eaters–people who are looking for homemade food. Chefs can list their dishes and prices on the website along with convenient pickup times, and using the map, diners can see what dishes are available near where they live. Then they can arrange a convenient pickup time so that the food is fresh when they arrive to get it. In the end, they can post comments on each others’ pages and leave a rating.

How’s the feedback been? We started in February, and in the first three weeks, we got around 100 members who performed around 70 transactions. We want to have every cuisine represented, but right now we have a lot of sweets, like cupcakes. The most common feedback we’ve gotten is that people want home delivery. We originally wanted to engage the people to meet each other, but if everyone is asking for it, we may need to find a solution.
