Enoteca Spreads its Roots to Lujizui

We chat to Tomaz Hladnik, the founder of wine spot Enoteca. He tells us all about the new Lujiazui location, Enoterra, and his expansion plans for the wine emporium.

How did Enoteca come about?
The idea that started it all was to have a wine shop where you can buy your favorite bottle of wine to take home or, better yet, to share it on the spot in a comfortable lounge with your friends.

So what’s the big idea behind your new bar, Enoterra?
Enoterra is another step in our development. When you decide to build something in Lujiazui you cannot go small or cheap. The new store brings a whole new classiness to Enoteca. We have an expanded restaurant space with a separate self-service take-away lunch area and a smaller wine cellar space. It’s not just a wine bar with great food like Enoteca–Enoterra really is a “land of wine,” a spacious wine bar and restaurant.

What’s your expansion strategy moving forward?
We have big plans in China. We were wine bar pioneers in Shanghai and Beijing and we have learned a lot. We now have four locations in two cities 1,000km apart, and we’re focusing on centralizing our operations and systems for a rapid expansion in 2011. According to our data there is space for at least one more location in Shanghai and two more in Beijing with more cities to follow.
