Shanghai is the merry-go-round of China. There are always new people getting on and getting off. With all this variety it is sometimes nice to accessorize an evening with a new friend. Therefore, I figured it’s high time I shared some of my favorite places to gear up.

Far and away the best shop in town for anything “novel” is Amy’s Bedroom (160 Xiangyang Lu). This is the place to go for quality. Offering a wide range of products for guys and gals, this place is as great for gifts as it is for self gratification. I particularly recommend their selection of silicon slipperyness. It may be pricey compared to the blue bottle gloop from your local Kedi but the quality will ensure you never look back. They also offer the best options for ladies interested in making their endowment as strapping as Harvard’s.

If you’re a fan of markets and have a free afternoon, the most interesting trip you can take in town is just north of People’s Square on the corner of Wuzhen Lu and Tianmu Lu. Three floors of Chinese medicine are crowned by a fourth floor of adult novelties. The type of the products here varies from top brands like Lelo and Tickler to stuff you can’t imagine anyone in their right minds letting anywhere near their bodies. It’s a seriously bizarre place and even with all the products on display, it lacks the creepy vibe you might expect―it’s more chemist than tea room.

Anyone in the market for masculine aromas and supplements should look no further than Hotandmust.com. This website is the online presence of a Shanghai retail brand and offers a variety of hard to find products with an exceptional English-speaking customer service hotline. They usually offer same-day delivery downtown and have a wide variety of products to make any party pop. Another web listing with local connection is Manifesto.com.cn. Formerly a shop located near the entrance of Shanghai Studio, it now exists as a Taobao shop but offers the best deals on the web for high-quality and high-impact men’s under-gear. For the ladies I recommend TOIs, a new brand that will cater specially to women’s needs.
