Brought to us by the owners of Mokkos, this Japanese haven has a great vibe. Set just a few blocks off the Bund, Jiao Bar is inviting and warm, emitting an old world feel with private rooms ensconced in dark wood. While shochu is the main attration, subtle reggae tunes and funky food menus give this place a homespun character you just don’t find in many new venues. Try the hot sweet potato shochu (RMB55) for a sweeter warming take or the more traditionalist, smooth Haigeku wheat variety (RMB50) then sidle up to the bar for a handful of peanuts (RMB5) or an edamame snack (RMB25).
