NEW EATS: Mediterranean | Three and Tree ★★✩✩✩
Three's a Crowd
The romantic setting of Three and Tree was perfect on a summer evening, the tables filled mostly with couples dining in the blue and white Mediterranean-themed interior. Formerly the Greek restaurant Aegean, this incarnation is still running a menu with a large number of Greek specialities from dolmades to moussaka to ouzo. Service was varied–some staff were completely attentive while others were lacking finesse and the main dishes took a long time to arrive. By the glass wine selections were disappointing with only a couple wines available (¥42 for the house wine). A bread basket starter with dips (¥68) and mixed olives (¥25) set a precedent for the evening by being a little on the small side, although the yogurt in the tzatziki was particularly authentic, being both thick and tangy. An arugula and goat cheese salad, priced on the high side at ¥85, was too expensive for what it was though the goat cheese and balsamic teamed perfectly. Once the mains arrived, beautifully presented on rectangular plates, the pan-fried lambchops with rosemary potatoes (¥216) were proclaimed tender, although the rosemary was a bit thin on the ground. Other mains were enjoyable; the sole (¥110) was salty but flavorful and the salmon (¥140) had a generous portion of fish and more of the previously mentioned yogurt. Sadly, the baklava (¥35) which we had been excited for all evening was a total disappointment–dry and not puffy or flaky at all. Take a date who loves a romantic atmosphere and grab a seat in the conservatory area if you can.
