SECOND BITE: Pasta Fresca Da Salvatore (Italian)

Go Pasta
This restaurant exudes a back home, Southern Italian neighborhood feeling. The décor is Italy circa 1950s while the food is basic salads, pastas, pizza, mains and Italian desserts. While a bit on the pricey side, it nicely fits the fashionable Hengshan Lu area. The Mozzarella Condita (¥88) was replete with firm and tasty buffalo mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, a light, tasty basil emulsion, and was ample enough for two. Naturally, fresh pasta is the main feature with a wide range of choices, most priced at ¥88. Of the two that we sampled, we liked the Vegetariana the best--a mix of tangy capsicum, onions, eggplant, zucchini and mushrooms in a rich tomato and basil sauce overtop fettuccini. The Rigatoni Ragu dotted with duck, sausage and tomato sauce was unexciting. All in all, the best bet is a do-it-yourself mix and match pasta and sauce. That way, you can't go wrong.
