World Chocolate Wonderland has constructed a whole chocolate theme park just in time for the holidays. We sat down with project organizer Zhao Jing Po to get all the delicious details. Read on to learn more:
This is China’s second chocolate theme park. What makes it special?
Yes, Beijing may have held the first last year, but this one is uniquely Shanghai. In one area, you’ll find the Huangpu River flowing with chocolate as well as chocolate reproductions of landmarks like the Pearl Tower and the Jin Mao Tower. In another, the grandeur of old Shanghai has been replicated. Check out a phonograph and old-fashioned telephone there.
Why build everything out of chocolate?
Chocolate is an integral part of our lives. We hope everyone will see that when they visit. There will be hundreds of art pieces that span 3,500 sq. meters. We’re also featuring chocolatier demonstrations, other daily performances and workshops where you can make chocolate crafts yourself. Plus, of course, samples!
Where did all the chocolate come from?
All over. We sourced internationally, and there is chocolate from Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland. While you can’t eat the show itself, handmade world chocolates and other chocolate souvenirs will be available for purchase.
So what are the must-sees?
The hundreds of terracotta warriors are fun. And as 2012 is the lunar year of the dragon, we’ve built the world’s biggest chocolate dragon at about nine meters long. Also very impressive: full-scale replicas of two massive famous Chinese paintings: Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains and Along the River During the Qingming Festival.
