Nicolas Leroy and his brothers want to make you a successful contemporary artist with their digital project, BDRtist. We caught up with him to find out more.

Tell us a bit about the BDRtist project.
Leroy Brothers’ BDRtist is an internet-based art project that allows you to be part of the contemporary art world. The best users of the year win a total art experience: they are guest star artists at the next Leroy Brothers show, wherever in the world that is. On our costs!

What inspired the project?
We’re working in the tradition of artists like Koons or Murakami: we think of concepts and make the best ones happen. Specialists are producing the work. With BDRtist we pushed it further: the touch of the artist has been waved away. The creative input is now yours.

What’s the concept behind your project and blending the works together?
We are interested in bringing unknown people from different cultures together. Mixing the works create an instant picture of the connected world we are part of.

What are some of the more creative pieces sent in?
We love the submissions. You know, we have the feeling all people on our site act like artists: they carefully select what they submit, for art’s sake.

Where does your work come from?
Our work comes from everywhere. The US, Montenegro, Argentina, Russia, China, Ukraine, Taiwan, Belgium, France, Japan, the UK...

What can we expect in Shanghai?
We are giving away 2,000 Leroy Brothers books: How to be a Successful Contemporary Artist from A to Z!

The Leroy brothers will be at the Art Labor 2.0 til July 7. Submit your art online at www.lplusl.org.
