Shanghai Weekender: Where to Ditch Your Kids and Party this Weekend

Friday night kicks off with the Limited Express China Tour playing experimental punk sounds at YYT's stage for their first show in China. They've toured the US and Australia and for some reason have decided to come see us last – just a little jealousy here. Across town at the another livehouse is a Folk Rock Festival with a strong local line-up of Zhou Yong, Xiao Wei, Wu Ji, Bai Yu , Zuo Mingliang and Liu Jian and should make for a decent night of relaxed tunes on Stage at MAO Livehouse.

But you look like you're searching out something a little more lively. Then we recommend a little taste of the Italy Party at Bar Rouge on Friday night with Italian songs that "we all know". If you're looking for another randomly assigned party, ZEAL hosts 71's Electro/House Hippie Party on Friday night.

Saturday looks to be a long one with TICT hitting Atanu for another lighthouse party, head there before 5pm and get in free. The line-up includes DJs R3 of S.T.D., spinning in the grey area of a ven diagram between new disco, acid house and industrial glitch, and Ssoso spinning up a dose of techno-edged electro. If you stop by TICT and your toddler is like, "Nah" then just walk a little further down The Bund to Cool Docks at Wharf 1846 where they're putting on a family-friendly music festival blasting out jazz, salsa, soul and r'n'b at your family unit. Also at Rico Rico on the other side of the beach, is Jane Siesta's birthday party with a big line-up of DJs, reggae group Uprooted Sunshine playing and a barbecue at 8pm.

Later on Saturday, The Mixing Room in the bottom of the Mercedes-Benz Arena is celebrating their subjugation to the ever-growing MUSE. Having joined the powerhouse, they've brought in MC Hotdog and other special guests to celebrate for the night. If you don't know, MC Hotdog is know on the Wika-wikipedias for "his use of explicit lyrics in his songs." So best to leave the kids at Cool Docks.

Okay, we've gotta go ask Macy Gray about goulash. Apparently she loves it.
