The Jinqiao / Biyun area is booming right now so we caught up with Thomas Wong, the Lanson Place Jin Qiao Residences GM. We chatted about the growth of the area and found out a little bit about its residents.

How has the Jinqiao / Biyun area grown in the past couple of years?
There is a real hum to the neighborhood. If you take a stroll you will see most eateries packed and people queue up not only during lunch or dinner periods but throughout the day. People are becoming more affluent and have spending power. Around the Jinqiao area, and covering Biyun too, the whole place is bustling with activity. New offices and factories are opening up and bringing in more staff, including foreign managers.

Why do expats choose the suburbs over downtown?
Biyun is central to Pudong, and the location encompasses Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Zone, Jinqiao and Waigaoqiao Trade Zone. Many Fortune 500 companies’ headquarters or R&D centers are located in these areas. It’s also convenient for expatriates working in these areas, and offers all the amenities of a city center: a variety of restaurants, bars, shops and an international supermarket. There are many international schools nearby as well, so it is ideal for families with children.

Who are Lanson Place Jin Qiao’s typical residents?
The vast majority of our customers are business people, with 60 percent of residents staying longer than six months. About 35 percent stay for one to five months and five percent are transient guests. The major industries are manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, banking, insurance, electrical and automobile. About 20 percent are families with children and the rest are single or couples without kids.

How has Lanson Place Jin Qiao evolved to accommodate the growing community?
Condominium towers have been transformed from cold apartments into elegant, comfortable residential homes filled with modern comforts, 24-hour on-site services and landscaped gardens.
