In 2012, China will begin construction of its second seven-star hotel on southern China's Hainan Island. As announced at the Noppen China Expansion Summit, The Haikou Millennium Hotel will be the third seven-star hotel in the world. China already has plans for one seven-star resort and the only other country to rival is the United Arab Emirates with the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.
Expected to be completed by 2015, the hotel will be built on a artificial island off the coast of Hainan. The resort will feature four hectares of entertainment space, British aristocratic style wait service, a duty-free mall, over 800 guest rooms and a huge 300 meter high viewing tower located on a peninsula overlooking the sea. One thing's for sure; this hotel will set the standard for luxury.
This new project is a bold statement about the state of China’s hospitality industry. Already hosting the biggest gambling city in the world, Macao, and soon to have the biggest amusement park, Shanghai Disney Land, China is looking like it’ll become the vacation hotspot of the future. Hainan Island, while not St. Tropez, is certainly making an effort to become it sometime soon.
