The Xujiahui shopping and entertainment district is the perfect place for new businesses to set up shop. We caught up with Jonny Wu, Executive Director of Hongwell Heights, to find out more about the new high-end office building that is currently being built and how he is bringing bigger business to Xujiahui.
Why did you choose to build the Hongwell International Plaza in Xujiahui?
Xujiahui, one of the five largest CBDs (central business districts) in Shanghai, is part of the government’s five-year plan for enterprise and industrial growth. The vision is to turn it into Shanghai’s Shinjuku, creating a first-class, international city district. As a mature sub city-center, Xujiahui CBD has lots of traffic but few high-end office buildings. The upcoming Hongwell International Plaza will bring a new caliber of Grade-A office space to Xujiahui.
What about employees who would prefer to live near Xujiahui but not downtown?
Hongwell International Plaza is situated quite close to Gubei, Hongqiao’s CBD. The service sector and residential area there cater to many expatriates, providing easy access to hospitals, restaurants, international schools and parks.
In the ever-competitive market for Shanghai’s Grade-A office space, what makes Hongwell International Plaza stand out?
The building features several unique amenities. These include bus transportation to and from various Metro stations and international eateries for employees, as well as 600 parking spaces, which is unheard of in most of Shanghai’s offices. This is one building where parking will not be a headache.
How was sustainability taken into consideration when designing the office?
We have made sustainability a priority from top to bottom. The building features a state of the art HVAC system, energy-saving electronics and an insulating curtain wall to make the space as carbon-neutral as possible. We aim for an intelligent, eco-friendly, productive office enviroment.
