How many holidays can we squeeze in to May? Nobody likes to work a full five day week when the weather's turning so nice out ever.
Happily the Chinese government may be granting us an extra day on May 21. Currently the edict proposes a holiday for the government and schools on Wednesday, May 21. This does not necessarily, however, extend to private businesses.
It could (and in our humble opinion, should), so start dropping hints to your boss (or if you are the boss, make it happen).
Here are some persuasive reasons to propose at this week's staff meeting as to why we should all observe May 21 as a holiday:
"It's the 12th anniversary of the Restoration of Independence in East Timor. Out of respect to our East Timorian coworkers and friends, we should sleep in."
"The American Red Cross was founded on May 21st, 1881. We will need the day off to donate blood. And day drink." (DISCLAIMER: Do not actually do this because it is a terrible idea.)
"Bobby Cox was born on this day in 1941. We need a company baseball game in Century Park. I'll bring a cooler of beer. And my glove, I guess."
Are you getting May 21st off from work?
