We don't need to tell you how hard it can be to hail a taxi at times. Why not upgrade at the push of a button? A technology platform that partners with high-end car services around the world, Uber soft launches in Shanghai today and realizes your dream of having a private driver on call.
All riders have to do is sign up for the app (available for iOS and Android) or go to http://m.uber.com and request a ride. Within minutes, a luxury sedan such as a Mercedes, equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi and water, will roll up to take you to your destination. Note that during this intial testing phase for Shanghai, service will be concentrated primarily in the former French Concession and Xintiandi areas. Pricing is approximately two to three times that of a taxi, and payment will be in USD only for the time being.
In the last three years, Uber, which began as a start-up in San Francisco, has expanded to 40 cities on four continents. Shanghai is its first city in China and the fourth in Asia.
