I just moved here from New York 8 months ago and was apprehensive about trying a healthcare clinic in China, but their clinic is even nicer than my home clinic in Rochester. Receptionists were polite, waiting room was clean, and physician was nice and patient about all my food allergy questions. When I found out they offered dental services as well, I went in for an overdue teeth cleaning. Tools and machines were extremely sanitary and I was definitely pleased, well as much as one can be for going on a dental visit, ha. But anyway, no issues and would recommend GHC to any expats living here.

Crap, utter, utter, lying, money-grabbing crap. Here in for a stomach complaint? Ah, we have our heart specialist in today, go see him! Your explosive diarrhea could easily be related to an undiagnosed heart defect! And it just so happens that our nephrologist is here as well, better get checked for kidney stones in between trips to the toilet! Cure the symptoms you have sir? Well, we'll see about that right after this x-ray of your wrist, and better pop in to say hi to the visiting urologist we have for an unnecessary urine culture. Oh, here's some medicine for your stomach. It's probably something you ate. But good news! Your ECG, urine test, x-ray and ultrasound were all clear! 6000RMB, please. And to add insult to comedy, the flu shots are advertised at 150RMB on the door, but they will charge your insurance company more than that, helping your premiums go up. Does anyone know a hospital here that is any good? I simply can't find one that doesn't give crap service at ridiculous prices, with GHC obviously being the worst.

Went to this place as a walk-in and they said they accepted my insurance. When I checked out, they said I had to pay 2000RMB which my insurance would not cover. It turns out that Global Health Care was not in my insurance provider network. Beware!

I never like to post reviews on websites, but when I read these comments here, something is coming out of my chest and I know I must say something fair. I'm from Tokyo and have been in Shanghai for 5 years. GHC is definitely not the only hospital I tried, but it is the one which makes me feel the most comfortable. The nusrses and front dest staff are so nice, always give me best advices for checking procedures, sometimes health tips...I can tell from their actions that they do care about patients. Sometimes, they are so busy that small flaws happen, but that's acceptable, no one is perfect. The doctors...I must say that I couldn't find better doctors even in Japan. They always give me therapies I need, never over charge or exagerate the illness. For several times, they even didn't charge me for dental checkup. I am now a member of GHC, and I think I will be a loyal patient as long as I'm in Shanghai. Maybe someone had experiences not so happy, but I know I must tell what I feel.

Right, total change of opinion: These people are useless. Fever of 38.8, accelerated to 39.5. Spent 5 hours at the hospital, underwent a battery of tests. Doctor recommends seeing expensive specialist, who says "Honestly, I don't know why he told you to see me, there's nothing I can see that's wrong or any way that I can help you." She of course recommends other expensive tests that conclude nothing. And by the way, NO-ONE checked the previous medical records to see that I was in a day before, even though they had been told that I'd been in the day before and seen someone else. After 4 hours of lying on a bed with a fever just shy of 40, they finally decide to dispense a single Tylenol to bring the fever down and the advice "We don't know what's wrong with you, you should go to another hospital." ... 5 hours, nearly 7000 RMB, several years of medical school. Went to Huashan: "It's just a really stubborn cold" tests, pills, gone. 170RMB. Draw your own conclusions from this. But after three years of barely receiving any treatment from these people, and at great cost, I'll be going somewhere else.

You know, what you are saying is fair: I've been coming to this clinic since 2007 and they always seem hit and miss. They are friendly, the doctors as native speakers all speak perfect English, but something feels a little bit slapdash about the place... like they are more concerned with the making of money than specifically getting you back to good health. I have found at times the doctors themselves are alternately totally focused on you and completely baffled by what is going on. They are attentive and hear your concerns fully, but there seems to be some leaps of faith and guesswork in diagnosis. For example: I had incredible pain in my lower jaw and went to see the dentist, who diagnosed it with a wisdom tooth problem. I asked to have it extracted and the doctor agreed. However, they asked me to go back again, and I did. I paid 2000 RMB for him to have another poke around and declare that it needed to be taken out... which I had already asked. Once it was extracted, even a year on, the pain persists occasionally. Same place, same intensity. I don't feel healed. Generally though, they have served me well in these past few years, and I hope they can continue to do so: but there's always that niggling doubt that the business is health, but the first aim of this health business is money.

Never thought I'd ever write a review for a clinic but I need to get this off my chest. Was having terrible pains on the right side of my stomach which was not going away (and was getting worse and worse). Decided to go to this one because it was close to my house and seeing as it was a foreign clinic I thought to myself "I'll be taken care of". As I arrived everything was lovely...service was friendly, my doctor was caring, equipments were clean. I was willing to spend alot of money here just to get rid of this pain and be diagnosed correctly (I was wrong). I was told I had possible 'gallstones'..so I went in for a scan (which on it's own was over RMB 1,000). After the scan I was told that they couldn't find any stones, but that it may 'not be visible' but still be gall stones, to which I believed but thought it was strange as we can always see the stones. The really nice doctor gave me medication for it and told me to keep in touch with him. I went home, took the medication for a few days. My problem was getting worse and worse, and to this point I could no longer sleep on my right hand side. I was calling this doctor and he was calling me to tell me I may have a liver problem or this or this or this, to which now it was making me nervous because he just wasn't getting anything correct, and the problem seemed to be getting more serious. I gave up and decided to go to a Chinese Hospital (I could not afford to pay ANOTHER RMB 3,000), so I went to Ruijin, Had the same tests, and was told by the doctor instantly that I just had a minor bacteria infection. He gave me the correct medication, and I was healed within 2 days. I'm really upset over this because shouldn't clinics like this know what they're doing? I feel ripped off and misdiagnosed. I think with the price we're paying, you can afford to get qualified doctors.
