Description

Comfy cushions, paper lanterns and hand-held drums create a laid back atmosphere. The menu is a mix of Nepalese and Indian favorites such as curries, lentils, lamb and naan, all rich with cloves and other Nepalese spices. Try the fried cheese balls and tangy salads.

super cozy and great atmosphere. Great place. Usually order a mixed plate, their cheese balls are really good and I love finger-eating the chicken. Hard to find a cab after and don't expect to take food pics there, light does not allow you to

One of my favourite spots in town, checking for new restaurants made me realised that I should definitely return to this one as it's been quite a while! Great food, and relaxing ambiance.

I LOOOOVEEEE Nepali kitchen! I go there fairly often either with my boyfriend or with some intimate friends when I want to have a chat (usually about my boyfriend lol) It's really cozy, the service is kind, and you can even take a nap in between courses! The wine is fairly priced for the quality and so is the food. I love the mutton curry and the fried appetizers are crunchy and tasty. 100% recommended..

One of the first restaurants I went to in Shanghai. Ate on the second floor and had to take off my shoes. The food was pretty good, it reminded me a bit of eating indian food when we had the dough/pita bread type thing dipping it into the curry sauce. A different and interesting experience.

Overpriced for poor food quality....too many laowais, like me:), have visited this place.....Staff acts charming, which does not level the bland, uninterested tastes that come from the kitchen. Taking your shoes off is nice for a newbie...which might take the attention away from the food... Please take care of cooking/ingredients, this is a mess....

On par with what I expected as far as food quality but the pricing just didn't fit. Dinner for 3 people and 2 beers each rounded up to about 450 RMB. Cheese balls are good yeah but not 60 RMB good. Chicken sticks okay but Chor Bazzar Lollipop chicken (basically same dish) is much better. If you want to sit on cushions and eat dinner go here, if you want a good meal for your yuan do not.

After walking in this restuarant by chance we were greeted by a kind staff and led up to the second floor. After taking off our shoes and putting on the slippers provided to us, we sat down on a raised embankement and started looking over the diverse menu. The prices seemed fair enough, however the portion sizes didn't exactly do the prices justice. Not that the prices were outrageously expensive by any means, the portion sizes of the curry and other mains were a little skimpy. The highlights of the meal were the vegtable pagodas and the BBQ chicken. Although not what an american would typically consider BBQ, the chicken was juicy, tasty, and extremely satisfying. Despite the portions, I will definitely return to this restuarant on a cold night when my taste buds are craving some delicate spice and I feel like cozying up on some cushions while being transported to the the smells and sounds of Nepal.

After visiting Nepali Kitchen, I'm a huge fan of the vegetable pakoda (YY35) — eight crispy patties of deliciousness. They've got a reasonable selection of curries, and their lassi drinks hit the spot. But nothing on the menu truly jumped out as spectacular or amazing given the Nepali Kitchen might be the "only" Nepalese restaurant in the city (don't quote me on that fact).

My friend had made reservations for this restaurant, I was sat on the 2nd floor (the 1st and 3rd are the normal sitting tables) the 2nd floor is with cushions. Very friendly service, I've never tried Nepali food before, but I thought it was fantastic! I will be coming back for sure to try more of the other dishes.

Went with a friend last year, sat on the 2nd floor (on the ground with a pile of cushions, very cozy), dishes are all quite oily, especially when they get cold. Curry's special, roast lamb's very much the same taste as yang rou chuan you can get on street. I feel it's over-priced considering the quality of food. BUT it's always nice to try something new.

The classic place for expat group dinners (already been there with 3 different groups of foreign friends !). Make sure you book a private room, as the main room is really uncomfortable if you're not used to sit on the floor. There are ups and downs in the menu, but generally speaking it's scarcely spiced. You'll forgive everything, though, after a plate of chocolate pancakes. And who cares if they're not Nepalese ?!

I had dinner there last week and I was dissapointed, half of the ordered dishes were simply not good; a Nepalese chicken curry with obvious heated meat from a fridge, chewy. Grilled meat, partly burnt. Daal was fine, Naan bad. all together it seems it is a mess in the kitchen. Have been there around 4 times in the past years and this one was definetely the last one.

##Where You Eat: if you're an athletic scientist Name: Christl Kagiyama Profession: Chemist Seeking food in Shanghai is like traveling all over the world right in the comfort of your own bustling, smoggy (but heart-felt) city. It's not everyday you can go to Nepal, but I find myself gravitating to **Nepali Kitchen** for their fried cheese balls and steamed cauliflower dishes. For the ultimate trifecta (reasonable prices, all-you-can-eat and a good time), my friends and I reserve one of the back rooms (or all three!) at [Gokohai Shabu Shabu](http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/shanghai/listings/dining/japanese/has/gokohai-shabu-shabu/#comment_28350). No one leaves unsatisfied with YY5 Asahi draft beers and YY88 gets you a ticket to unlimited beef piled in mountainous form. With half the staff speaking Japanese, I feel right at home. I also enjoy a calm outdoor brunch at [Bastiaan Bakery](http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/shanghai/listings/dining/german/has/bastiaan-bakery-Konditorei/#comment_28349) on the Hongmei Lu Pedestrian Street. This German bakery makes some mean smoothies, my favorite being the Healthy Breakfast Smoothie complete with oats and honey. I pair it up with the Salmon Club sandwich and fries to get all the fuel I need for another weekend in the 'hai.

Nepali Kitchen has always been one of our favorite places to relax and have a good meal in a nice environment. The staff are actually from Nepal and provide good service. They have a new menu that add a few favorites to the existing mix. I highly recommend trying out the new dishes...they dont change the menu often. If it aint broke why fix it.

While not an expert on Nepali cuisine, I really enjoyed our meal...everything from the relaxed and laid-back dining room, to the excellent service and food. Its a peaceful break from the din of most Shanghai restaurants, with what I thought were unique and delicious dishes.

I know everyone loves this place but I found it extremely uncomfortable on the cushions, expensive for what it was, and really really under seasoned. The basic veg and lentil dishes were great and simple but the rest just left me wondering what all the fuss was about.
