Description

Despite the rather prominent portrait of Mao on the mantle, this local bar has a distinctly café-type feel with its dark, wooden interior and bookcases. With a range of mixed drinks and beers, this spot is great for a happy hour Duvel. It is one of Shanghai's oldest surviving bars and draws a loyal crowd of long-time expats and hipster Chinese.

It's the people in this place that bring it down. Way down.

The first floor has been closed, hopefully temporarily, due to some landlord issues, but the basement is still going strong. They've beefed up the air conditioning to clear out the smoke (a bit) and the whole vibe is still cool. It's where YY started really 15 years ago. It's still my favorite bar in Shanghai.

This is my home, literally. I can go to Yin Yang for a afternoon lunch with coffee, leave, then come back at night for alcohol. Its probabaly the ZEN the feel in it. The music is excellent as well, chill is the word.. Come here to witness the beginnings of Shanghai nightlife, and indulge yourself with their great Chicken wings, fries, and wonton. Their cocktails aren't good, but they are hella strong, which is good, haha.

It's not the best bar in town, but somehow every time I'm in Shanghai, I end up there.

Issue 8, "Where You Drink" Name: Roman Hostal Profession: Brand and Marketing Manager "I really enjoy places where you come in and you know almost everyone–especially important after a hectic day at work. One of these places is 570. The music and drinks there are always great and it feels very much like home with a cozy atmosphere and many other French people around. If I feel like great live jazz music, I head to JZ Club where the jazzy tunes make me wanna dance or sometimes simply sit and enjoy one of the club's whiskeys. For a cozy and unique atmosphere, I also really like Yin Yang Bar. Being one of the first bars in Shanghai, this place certainly has some history to it and the interior, especially in the basement, seems like a set out of a movie waiting for you to be the star. Their drinks are great and the mix of people is always interesting."
