She'll discuss her works and life as a popular young author. Those attending get 10 percent off on coffee drinks, courtesy of Figaro. Been with this book club for almost 2 years and I still love it! It's like a support group for readers in Shanghai... 1> you get motivated to get back on your reading 2> you get to talk a bit about the book and other books 3> and you talk a WHOLE LOT more about living in Shanghai and all other topics under the sun -- from dining to shopping to travel and just about anything each sip of coffee sparks your brain cells to think about.

Hi,
1) would you know if there's a "library" or book club where i can join or swap english books (novels, bestsellers)?
2) Heard that a limited selection of english books are sometimes sold on the street at very low prices. So far, i've never seen them. which streets would i find them?
I'll go check out Figaro in March!

Hey there!
Here are some answers for you...
1> There's a book exchange group in Figaro every 3rd Saturday of the month at 2pm (next one is on FEB 16) where you get to meet book swappers and swap books. It's based on the concept of www.bookcrossing.com. Books are also available in Figaro's shelves for swapping at any time!
2> It's usually on little back streets, streets where there are a lot of vendors, by subway stations or outside apartment complexes. It's sort of hit or miss because their vendors on carts. They usually have "copies" of bestsellers. Beware of missing pages and other "abnormalities" though.
Hope that helped!
