Description

Dong Mingguan’s new body of sculptural work focuses on the loss of innocence in childhood. These seemingly charming children with their big round faces, tiny bodies and animated facial expressions teeter on the cusp of a grand awakening into the adult world. The artist is interested in capturing the moment when the seeds of power, violence, competition and materialism begin to germinate, and the dark side of adulthood starts to loom. A point of development compounded by the effects of China’s surging socio-economic development and Dong Mingguang subtly calls into question the effects this is having on China’s children.
