Andrew James Art is proud to present Dorothy M.Yoon’s work to China for the first time. Dorothy is a London-based Korean artist and studied MFA at Goldsmiths College of Art in London where she graduated in 2007.
With this body of work “13 of Blondes” Dorothy challenges stereotypes of Western and Asian beauty and also addresses her childhood desire to have blonde hair and blue eyes.
The artist who is a self confessed “Superstar Super Shy Girl” makes herself the centre of attention, portraying herself as “Venus” and declaring “I am Love.” Spend an evening with the artists you will come away from it thinking she is part movie star, part comedian, part model and 100% artist. She has a devilish sense of humour which is hinted at in her work and especially in her videos, which can’t fail to put a rye smile on your face
The one thing that I always come away from looking at her work “13 of Blondes” is the sheer perfection of the photos which were painstakingly created to the last detail, the choice of the calligrapher for the Korean characters, the hair stylist, the wardrobe etc If I had to summarize the work in one word it would be “Beauty”.
