Description

Sorry, but this contest is closed! Congratulations to the winner listed below!

After scoping out some of the city's hottest al fresco spots, we decided that it was only fair to send some of our fabulous readers to some of them. Two lucky winners will each receive a dinner for two plus a few vouchers to some of the following: M on the Bund, roomtwentyeight, O'Malley's, The Binjiang One, Casa 13, Sasha's and Coconut Paradise.

To *WIN tell us: You're eating out but this time, your al fresco feast is on you--a picnic! You've got the blanket, the frisbee (or badminton racket, if you must), now all you need is the food. What do you pack in your perfect (or quirky) picnic basket?

Contest ends April 24

Let's imagine a big basket....

Since it's a picnic, it's going to be warm outside, so a focus on the hearty salads: taco salad, rice salad, egg salad, tuna salad...and home-made chocolate chip cookies.

And for drinks...margaritas to accompany the taco salad and vodka-cranberry to accompany the rest!

My quintessential picnic basket would be over-flowing with a selection of seasonally inspired and exquisite gastronomic temptations, guaranteed to delight the most demanding gourmand!

Imagine freshly baked baguette sticks with wedges of blue cheese, aged cheddar and brie de meaux to accompany. Conceptualise an anti-pasto selection comprising almond-stuffed green olives; marinated Sicilian tomato and mozzarella; organic smoked salmon with horseradish sauce and melon-wrapped proscuitto. Consummate this wonderful array of gourmet goodies with some seasonal fruit and patisseries du jour. Last, but not least, make sure that you have packed a couple of hand-cut crystal champagne glasses (and plenty of strawberries) to indulge in a glass or two of Krug Grande Cuvée (chilled, of course!).

There you have a phenomenal picnic hamper – every content being the paragon of its type!

Could an al fresco feast get any better?

My ideal picnic basket would be packed full of delicacies such as pate; pickled octopus; gourmet cheeses; smoked chicken and almond pesto; tomato and goats cheese salad; Italian sausage; exotic breads to be ‘torn’ apart by hand, a classic green salad and most importantly a few bottles of good Australian red.

Now, back to reality…Is that the microwave in the background alerting me to the fact that my 2 minute noodles are ready?

I'd have some sparkling fruit coolers; salad with that tangy 5 herbs & spices salad dressing; and some mouth-watering delicious wraps: fake crab meat strips, cucumbers, sweet bell peppers, pickles, diced lettuce, and turkey, with honey-mustard sauce all wrapped in some toasted pita bread.

I'd also bring my American Express card as they say, don't leave home without it.

Being an Aussie, first and foremost I'd throw into the basket a few snags, a loaf of fresh white bread, some tomato sauce, a few meat pies and of course a slab of Fosters. I'd also need to bring along a few stubbie coolers as well as a portable gas barbeque! For the rug-rats, I'd pack some vegemite sandwiches, a few packets of tim tams and a couple of violet crumbles to follow! A picnic doesn't necessarily need all of the fancy trimmings. Sometimes the simple things in life are often the best!

the one thing that is a picnic must is a slip and slide. that way, when you are bored playing fish-cat ball you can battle each other for the best trick down the slide. warning--dont use large rocks to hold down the edges

Hmm, i love picnics! Especially since its quite rare to have them back in my country. I think first at all, I'd bring gazpacho, some steak burritos, an apple-raisins salad, some chocolate chips cookies and to drink: orange-mango shake. Hmm... yeah definitely i could invigorate my day in that way,. I think ill need a bigger basket :S

I used to have picnics with my best friends family when i was little. Being from England, my ideal picnic isnt that glamourous, but still nice. I would pack, ham and cheese sandwiches and some salad packed separatly (no one likes soggy bread), strawberries and squirty cream, cream crackers (must be jacobs!) with butter/jam/cheese. Then i would pack some previously cooked but now cold, chicken drummers some spicy! Not forgetting some chocolate and candy snacks. Im starting to get hungry now..

Spring.... Picnic. Well first and foremost, we must not forget an umbrella (just in case) Next, the food. My perfect picnic basket will need to have a fresh baked baguette, with a selection of cheese including brie, camembert, blue and gauda (all cut into small slices), a bottle of wine (light), a vegetable hummus wrap, some sliced salami/parma ham and finish up with blue berry muffins. Ummm Yum!
