Steve Sweeting's profile: Steve Sweeting is a jazz pianist, composer and teacher from New York City. He has performed and taught professionally for more than twenty years. His passion for teaching led him to teach Brazil and Bangladesh to study hand percussion (djembe, timbal and tabla). In New York he has been a much sought-after accompanist in the cabaret, musical theatre and jazz worlds and was teaching jazz history at Harvard University for five years. During that period, he was hailed by the NY Times as "a superb pianist”.
Steve has performed all over the world and has music-directed numerous New York cabarets and shows, ranging from intimate venues such as Don't Tell Mama's to outdoor festivals in Boston and Italy, to experimental theatre at La Mama. He is featured as pianist/arranger on CD's with Boston vocalist Will McMillan (Sketchbook #1) as well as with New York guitarist James Hammel (Do It All Over Again). From 2004 to 2006 he was a member of the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop in New York as a composer.
In 2006, he moved to Shanghai where he began a collaborative series with Chinese jazz vocalists at twocities gallery and began teaching at JZ School in 2007.
