While it may not be our first choice for easy listening, there's no doubt that traditional Kunqu opera is in full bloom this year. After a series of opera shows celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, Shanghainese Kunqu artist Jeffrey Zhang is making another breakthrough, combining this intangible cultural treasure with the stylings of Belgian pop jazz pianist Jean Maljean to create an unconventional crossover of music and cultures. Zhang will sing classical Kunqu pieces while Maljean adds that little taste of jazz. We're looking forward to hearing their new versions of songs from famous Kunqu opera classics including "The Peony Pavilion," "The Jade Hairpin" and "The Palace of Eternal Youth." RMB80-580
